MPI’s summer edition of its quarterly 2016 Meetings Outlook reports that 63% of its members see business conditions as favorable, a 7% drop on the previous spring quarter’s report.  20% believe conditions are neutral and 17% regard them as negative. 54% believe the projected budget spend in the year ahead will be favorable, 29% flat and 18% negative.

These are not especially encouraging figures, especially when nearly half are seeking to spend the same or less while costs continue to rise. Meetings and events generally have a very distinct and easily understood purpose and that’s to foster, encourage and develop trade in all its forms. Trading can’t and isn’t going to stop, it has to continue, but for the meetings and events element to continue to play its significant part it requires even greater innovation to overcome the never-ending new challenges we seem to face.
